*hums "Getting to Know You'* Sometimes, the urge to share my private life with mostly faceless strangers overwhelms me. I think this might be therapy for me. Who knows, but it was interesting to see what I came up with for answers. 1. How tall are you? 2. If you could own one thing that hasn't been invented yet, what would it be? 3. One year in prison for something you didn't do or say you did it to get a year's probation? 4. Do you believe human beings are instinctively monogamous? Why? 5. Describe the immediate area surrounding your computer. 6. You're having a dinner party with six well-known, currently living people. 7. Name an article of clothing or an accessory that you don't have but would like to own. 8. Name three things you'd like to do in this lifetime but haven't yet. 9. If you could return to life (after death) as an adult, retaining the knowledge you gained in this lifetime, and you could choose a different locale and era, where and when would that be? 10. Who cooked the best breakfast you ever had? What was it? 11. Where do you go to meditate and think? 12. Share a lesson you've learned. 13. What does your favorite pair of shoes look like? 14. If you could commit one crime--one free crime, no consequences--what would it be? 15. Do you believe in heaven? Even if you don't, if you could design it, what would it look like? 16. Tell me about someone I probably don't know about. 17. What are the things you like best about your life RIGHT NOW. 18. What would you like to be doing with your life five years from now? 20. If I ask you to build something, what's the first thing that came to your mind? Oh hey, finally doing the social blog I was talking about Friday. Procrastination, it's a way of life. Pardon me while I bitch, co-worker A & B have been having an incredibly long conversation in the cube next to me. I'm all for talking and gossiping, but I prefer to keep my kvetching session under a half-hour. Carrying on for over an hour and a half about the same 4 subjects is entirely too much. Let's seeeee...Eeeny, meeny, minney, moe. You first! Good. Stick to it and don't let 'em get you down. Don't let their egos and baggage affect you. BTW, taro bubble tea is indeed good. Thanks for the rec. Next! What do you mean there's not going to be anymore Pink! There has to be more! Usagi has to grown up and pull Benio away from Usagi-tousan! No! No! No! That can't be it. That can't be! Okay, better now. Don't think I like this design of Takaguchi's site. It seems to veer between too dark and too pink. And it's noisy! (Note to self: Take off headphones and turn down speakers when visiting.) I've managed to acquire 3 volumes of Takaguchi's doujinshi. They were very expensive, but I am a packrat. contemplates wallet Can't buy any more for a few more months. Not unless I sell some of my less-beloved items on E-bay. Anyway, the emotions in Takaguchi's kiss and/or love scenes are great. She manages to say so much with a few simple lines. happy sigh Must go dig out Pink and Sakende Yaruze tonight.

Got some social blogging to do, but it'll have to wait. Wanna add some new recipes to the blog. Simply because I want to be able to find them again someday. This is an incredibly easy recipe. Doesn't require much out of a person at all. Just dump in a bowl, mix and dump into a loaf pan to cook. Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Heat oven to 350. Grease or Pam (tm) your loaf pan if it's not a non-stick pan. Stir together first 6 ingredients. Then stir in bisquick and chips. Pour into pan. Cook 50-60 minutes or until a toothpike comes out of the dough clean. Cool 10 minute, then remove from pan. Good idea to let it cool a couple of hours before chowing down. Now for the not so easy banana bread recipe. This one comes from the The Bread Bible and it's easy to, but I tend not to use it as much. I have no reason for it, I just don't. Banana Bread Preheat oven to 350. Combine oil, sugar and eggs in a medium bowl. Beat hard until light colored and creamy. Add vanilla and mashed bananas and beat again until well combined. Add flour and baking soda and combine evenly. Batter should look creamy. Pour into loaf pans. Cook 40-50 minutes. Check with toothpick. Cool and dump out of pans. Add Now I remember why I don't make this often, the writer makes the recipe much too complicated. I edited out a lot of words and one bowl. Sheesh, it's banana bread, not rocket science. Lamb stew 1 onion, chopped Sautee veggies in some olive oil with a touch of salt. (Probably will need to do this in batches. Depends on pan size.) Take out veggies and brown meat. Re-add veggies. Add more salt and black pepper. Cook a little more. Add the red wine, some water, and bouillon. Toss in a little nutmeg and a bit of cayenne. Cover and simmer for an hour and a half. Uncover, add more nutmeg, the cinnamon, some cayenne, and a few dashes of worchester sauce. Stew another 45 min. Uncover and let cook down. Add corn starch if needed to thicken. Bacon'n'Leek Pie 1 box of Pillsbury pie crust (I don't do pie crust. Pillsbury makes a decent one, so why bother?) Slice the leeks. The white part is most desirable, but the pale yellow part will do. Then clean them very well. Leeks are gritty, and no one wants that in their dinner. To clean, toss the leeks in a salad spinner and run water over them. Then, sep. out the rings of the leeks. Do this for all the leeks. Lift up spinner and dump out the water. Repeat until there's no dirt left. Preheat oven to whatever temp the box says. (350, I think.) Put bottom crust into Pamed pie pan. Melt at least half a stick of better in a pan. Add leeks and salt'n'pepper and cook for a good while. Leeks should absore all the butter and become clear and wobbly. Just in case, cook them longer. The longer they sautee in butter, the better they are. Dump leeks into pie crust. Chop bacon in half. (Makes it easier to cut pie later...) Fry bacon, but don't fry it until it's hard. Just until the fat goes clear. Place bacon on top of leeks. (Think bicycle spokes.) Put top crust on. Pinch crusts together. Cook for 45-50 minutes and then serve. Good light dinner with a salad. 4/25/2002
T, Howl's Moving Castle can be read alone. There's a sequel, but it isn't important to the original story. Charmed Life and Witch Week are part of the Chrestomanci series, but can stand alone. DWJ wrote the series out of order, so I think we can read it out of order. Homeward Bounders and Archer's Goon stand totally alone. Grrrr. There was something else I wanted to say to you, but I can't get your livejournal to load.

Oh, very cool. Much more individual. Question, have you ever read Dianne Wynne Jones? She's not quite so heavily fantasy as Tamora P., but she's a lot of fun. IMO, A Tough Guide to Fantasyland should be thrown at every fantasy writer out there. You might likeArcher's Goon, Charmed Life and/or Homeward Bounders. Barely related note, I think Howl's Moving Castle is going to be turned into a movie by Studio Ghibli. (Wheeeeee!) Everybody make sure to read it before the movie comes out. Though heaven knows when/if Disney will ever bother to release it in the US. 4/22/2002

I'm hungry! contemplates dinner Some chicken, some noodles, some broccoli. I believe I'll make a bannana bread too. 4/18/2002
Life has been so up and down this weekend. After being gently reminded by a friend, I finally finished up "Coffee, Vodka, Tea" for CC. Then I checked her blog this morning. It's always sad to see someone fall out of love. In this cause, it's understandable though. I have become addicted to bubble tea. Very close to my workplace, there's a new shop that serves great bubble tea. I've stopped there twice this week, because it's been an up and down week, and I needed a pick me up. If she who got me addicted to this stuff is reading, this, I hate you, and we need to go there really soon and have dinner. The food smells amazing, but I haven't been able to actually sit and eat there. Oh, and if anyone tried to IM yesterday, I wasn't there. I just left the computer connected all day. 4/12/2002
It's Friday, the office is empty, so it's Great Big Sea time. Yeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhh! Oh me! Oh my! drools This livejournal has a lamb stew recipe that looks lovely. Except for the cooking and cooking the bell peppers thing. I don't like peppers that are cooked too long. Might try it this weekend.. Shopping list: I am hungry, can ya'll tell? 4/11/2002
CC that was my con report. Whadda ya' want? I was only there less then a day. On the issue of the Fannish Butterfly's MFU rec, while, um, yeah. Also, bear in mind she gets off on rape fics. Personally, I find that that writer's repeats the same ideas over and over and over again, and that gets really boring after awhile. Onto you Kathy! Again, I'm agreeing with you. Rape is cruel and ugly, and I don't understand why writers glory in it. Perhaps a small way of reclaiming power? shrugs Who knows what's going thourgh their minds the 5th time they rape Illya getting raped and Solo coming to his rescue. Spinning on my point for a moment, I will admit to enjoying "edge of consent" stories. I don't get the kink in myself. I'm slightly abashed by the preference, but I do enjoy them. On another note, can I bitch about the stories that the have the rape victim immediately spreading his legs for his partner? Cause you know, that really pisses me off. Almost nothing will turn me off a story then that particular storytelling shortcut. The healing power of the cock myth sets me foaming. It's lazy. It's betrays the writer's immaturity as a storyteller. IF someone is going to get raped, them I want to see them heal. I want them healed mentally. I want them healed physically. Then, I will accept them knocking boots. Right now, I can think of only two stories that even bothered to visit that idea and that's a sad, sad statement on fandom. Lo, I am human again, and it's time for another edition of "As the Blog Turns." Quick, everybody check my coding!

So, I managed to end up at the local area con last night. I wasn't planning to go. Didn't mean to go. Ended up going anyway. It was nice to get in touch with my fannish roots. (ie media fandom instead of anime.) I gossiped alot, and I actually didn't spend that much money. Okay, I didn't spend that much money for me. Random notes Must visit Sidewinder/Sockii's store in Philly someday, becuase she has interesting jewelry. Kathy, brains leak here...? o-0 The "writer" in question is actually an anime fan who has traveled into HP. shudders She's horrid and she gets praised. Does not compute at all! If you really want her name and stories, mail me and I'll shudders go dig some up for you. 4/5/2002
Things it is good to know: --Fighter jets take off from Andrews AFB over the Beltway, and it is really cool to see. 4/3/2002
For god's sake, someone make her stop. Plots driven by bad cliches, and language stilted. Her 20something male characters have the emotions of 14 year old girls! And her sex scenes read like very bad porn!. How can people praise this? How? How? How? 4/1/2002
squeals Pioneer fessed up! They've got X! I am happily contemplating the nice DVD release coming in the fall. Wonder what sort of gribley they'll throw into the DVD case. Maybe a nice shiny card? drools (I am such a magpie.) |
